A while back I went to the mall to pick up some clothes for a photo shoot for my business. A friend of mine had recommended a store I had never been to. As I walked in the mall, I asked myself which direction the store would be, and listened to my intuition for an answer. I started walking in the direction I felt pulled toward.

Then, I thought, maybe I need to find the store directory, just to make sure I am going in the right direction. I kept being pulled in one direction, which actually led me closer to the store directory AND the actual store I was looking for. In my mind I already had a sense of where the store would be, however, I’ve never seen that store before or been aware of it and it really could have been anywhere in the mall.

As I read the store directory sign I started to laugh. Of course the store was exactly where I thought it would be! So, why did I have to stop and look at the directory, I asked myself? I guess I needed confirmation and didn’t trust myself 100%.

I had another incident a while back when my phone battery died in the car as I was navigating to a place I had never been. I didn’t have a charger. After my phone shut off I just had to go by my intuition rather than the GPS, and amazingly enough, I ended up exactly in the right place even though I had no idea where I was going.

We are hardwired with an inner GPS, but we’ve been programmed to believe it doesn’t exist, or that we cannot do so many things we can do with our minds. You are way smarter than your smartphone, but do you really KNOW that? Do you use your inner capabilities to the fullest on a daily basis?

It is a myth that you need to look for any answers outside of yourself, because you have them all within – if you take the time to listen, and trust. How do you think the birds find their way as they migrate for miles and miles? If a bird can do this, then certainly can you.

The reason I’m mentioning this is because in the business world, just like in the rest of the world, there are so many rules, myths and programming about how things should or shouldn’t be, what can and cannot be done, what works and what doesn’t work – and all these “rules” are causing a big huge mess for a lot of business owners – because they follow the rules instead of their inner guidance and they realize it’s not working! Have you ever done that?

You may have taken a training and followed someone else’s recipe for success, only to find out it didn’t work for you! Let me tell you a secret. If something isn’t meant for you, it won’t work. If it’s not aligned for you, it won’t work – no matter how successful another person is using the same exact recipe. Fighting it and trying harder isn’t going to make it work either.

The recipe is different for everyone because we are all unique. We come into this life with different lessons to learn and a different purpose. Your path is unique. The key to having things work is running your business from a place of being your authentic self rather than following a recipe or programming.

This is why I’m against cookie cutter step-by-step ways to success. Because ultimately it’s your consciousness that is responsible for what you get – and if you’re aligned with your inner GPS or intuition, you will never go astray. You will be guided every step of the way.

When your business strategies are in complete alignment, everything flows much easier and you don’t need to force anything. The right people, circumstances and events will simply fall into your lap without much effort. This is how it’s supposed to work.

But we’ve often been clouded by our programming telling us that the answers are in another place, so we go looking in all the wrong places for the answers we hold within. Do you ever fall into that trap? I’m sure you wouldn’t go to the hardware store for milk!

I’m not saying don’t take any advice from anyone and to stop learning. Not at all.  What I’m saying is run any advice through your own filters and ask yourself if it feels right before doing it. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s probably for a reason. Listen to it. Just make sure not confuse fear with intuition. Doing what you’re meant to do is most likely going to bring up a lot of fear, because it’s designed to help you grow, and you cannot grow without stepping out of your comfort zone. You want to face your fears, as that will actually lead you straight to what you want. But while facing your fears, use your inner guidance and learn to trust yourself.

Instead of looking for the shiny object outside of yourself, look for the gold within you.

It’s right there if you’re just willing to listen and trust. You will be guided, step by step. To the right teacher, training, healer or resource that will help you with the next step on your journey. Just take it one step at a time and trust that there are no coincidences. When something shows up for you, ask yourself what it is here to teach you or show you. You always have your free will to decide what to do, and the Universe will keep putting the right resources under your nose until you start acting on it. If you resist too much however, you’re likely to start bumping into obstacles.

I could have never made it in this business had it not been for my coaches, mentors, healers and everyone else who supported me along the way.  However, while working with some of my coaches in the beginning, I got totally off track – because they didn’t see who I really was, or understand the importance of alignment and I didn’t trust myself enough to know that I knew best and to filter everything through my own intuition. I’m wiser now. Just the fact that something works for one person doesn’t mean it will work for another. A good coach and teacher will be able to see you and help you create a business and strategies that is in alignment with who you are.

My advice is; learn from others, invest in yourself, read books, take courses, work with coaches and learn new strategies to use in your business but always always trust your gut over what some “guru” is telling you.

The more aware you are, the more you will find that the step-by-step cookie-cutter strategies will not be working for you because they are simply not aligned.
