Which habits need to change?


Change can happen in an instant but most people change gradually over time. Like Aristotle said: We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

I have been very persistent and driven most of my life. In fact, for most of my life it was hard for me to slow down. I didn’t want to miss a beat. I wanted to be part of ALL the action.  I had to get really sick to finally get the message to SLOW DOWN.

But as I gradually gained energy back and felt better, it was easy for me to get pulled into the doing habit. I’ve had to learn to take things a little slower and incorporate new healthier habits to take care of my body. The cool thing is, once you replace bad habits for good ones, you are on a great track to changing your life.

It’s a myth that you have to work super hard to be successful. Instead, we need to achieve a balance of both feminine and masculine energies in order to best create things with more flow and less force and struggle.

Life was never designed to be a struggle. Our challenges are supposed to help us see where we’re off, so we can change things. They are not supposed to become permanent, but help us grow.

Humanity has been very unbalanced in masculine energy for a very long time, but now is the time to start embracing more of the feminine qualities in order to get your life and business back to more balance – and flow. 

I noticed that when I went from working hard to slowing down and embracing feminine qualities, my business income completely transformed and money was flowing like from a faucet when before I had felt so stuck.

Often, we block money, health and abundance because we’ve been so programmed by society to be in our masculine. We may have forgotten the power of our feminine, softer qualities. Remember that feminine doesn’t mean female here. Both males and females have both masculine and feminine energy and the key to living in more flow is to allow both of these energies space in your daily life. 

I’ve worked hard to change some of the habits that didn’t serve me and here are some of the new habits I incorporated into my life years ago that completely transformed both my life and business.

  • Stopped eating sugar, dairy and gluten: I did this a few years ago as I got very sick and the doctors were telling me to avoid any inflammatory foods. It’s made an amazing impact on my health. If you are struggling with fatigue, pain or any autoimmune conditions I highly recommend you try. Of course most people don’t want to take such extreme measures, but for me it was life changing. And, of course, speak with your doctor or naturopath before making any changes. I’m not a doctor and cannot give medical advice. I’m simply sharing what’s worked for me. 
  • Having a green smoothie every day: I have been doing this for a few years now and if I ever miss a day I don’t feel as great and I start craving sweets later on in the day.
  • Eating a healthy breakfast every day. What’s healthy for you may not be healthy for someone else. Did you know that if you remove sugar from your diet, you will be automatically drawn to the food your body needs most. I’ve heard that sugar messes this process up though…But I’ve learned that food can be medicine or it can be poison. What’s medicine for one person can be the opposite to someone else. I invite you to trust your intuition when it comes to what you put into your body. Remember, you become what you eat. If you want your life to work for you, pay attention to what you put in your body and how it affects you. 
  • Drink lots of [pure] water every day. The water from the tap is not the purest in a lot of places. I recommend a water filter that removes both toxins and flouride from the water, if there is flouride in the water where you live. 
  • Walk in nature every day: This is something I started many years ago. I love to walk in the forest because I have wonderful forest trails close by. But simply being out in fresh air daily is great. It makes such a difference on how you feel. Whenever I miss my walk, I don’t feel quite the same.  These are such simple things, aren’t they. But if you don’t do them, it won’t do you any good. 
  • Take time to meditate every day and write in my journal. I’ve been meditating now for many years. Whenever I do it regularly, everything in life seems to flow. Whenever I stop it, which happens from time to time due to being a mom and juggling lots of things, life just doesn’t feel as clear and I tend to get stuck in old patterns or self sabotage.  My mind is not as sharp and I everything I do takes longer and it’s harder to focus. Some find journaling easier than meditating, and that’s great too. Or you can do both. A great way to journal is to just let your thoughts onto paper in the morning for about 10 minutes, uncensored. Just see what comes out. 

Okay, so at first thought you may think I’m a bit of a health freak. I get it. But considering that many years ago my entire body was falling apart, this is what I initially did to feel better. Of course, I could have sat there and complained about my aches, pains and lack of energy but instead I did something about it. We always have a choice as to how to deal with our situation, no matter how difficult it may seem. 

How you do one thing is how you do everything.

Let me tell you, some of these habits were REALLY hard to create, but once you keep doing something over and over, you’re carving new pathways in your brain and once the pathways are created, it’s easier to do the new habit than not to. It’s a matter of being persistent until it becomes a habit.

How you feel has a huge impact on your profit in your business. There’s a big connection between health and wealth. So feeding your health is a great way to also feed your bank account and abundance thermometer. 

In fact, the times I make the most money in my business is when I exercise most. 

You may think it takes a ton of time to do all of this, but again, once you have created habits, it’s like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. You’ll find a way to do it and create your schedule around it.  If anything, these habits are helping me be more effective and focus better when I work, so I can get a lot more work done in less time. When you see the value, you’ll want to keep doing it. 

I’m going to incorporate a few more habits. I’ve started the 40 days of yoga challenge and made a commitment to spend at least 20 minutes on the mat each day.

It’s really SIMPLE, but not always easy. Persistence is key. All you need to do is make a decision and stick to it.

As a business owner, creating great habits can mean the difference between frustration and struggle versus success, flow and lots more income.

I recommend implementing one new habit at a time, to not overwhelm yourself. Once that habit sticks, move onto the next one.

How you do one thing is how you do everything. How you run your life is how you run your business and if you’re not taking care of yourself first, how will you have anything left for everything else?
