Top 5 mistakes that hold you back in business – and what to do instead
Is it taking you longer than you thought to take your business to the next level?
Maybe you have been in business for a while and you feel like you have reached a glass ceiling. Or you may be starting out and feel like you can’t get off the ground.
I would imagine that you started your business to get more freedom; freedom to do what you want when you want; freedom from having a boss telling you what to do and the freedom to make as much money as you want – and of course being able to follow your passion.
You have a big dream. You want to make an impact and help other people and you want to make a good living from your passion.
In the beginning you are super inspired and excited; you can’t wait to see your dream come true. Then you realize something. Getting there is harder than you thought and you end up feeling frustrated and impatient. You wanted your goals to have been met yesterday and at the same time you don’t know what to do next to take your business to the next level.
Can you relate?
There is never a perfect time. The time is now. Click To TweetAlthough there are no shortcuts to success, there are certainly ways to make your journey a whole lot easier. Below are 5 mistakes entrepreneurs make that stop them from getting to the next level.
1) Waiting for the perfect time
The problem with waiting for the perfect time is that there will never be a perfect time. By saying now’s not the time to do this, it is just another way of making an excuse and give yourself a reason to procrastinate.
The longer you wait to do what you want to do, the longer it will take to reach your goals. Instead of making excuses, do the things that will move you forward and make decisions based on where you want to go, rather than where you are now.
2) Focusing on perfection
A lot of business owners worry about having everything perfect before they go out and sell their services/products. They waste a lot of time perfecting their work, updating their services and programs rather than going out and finding clients and getting paid. They end up spinning their wheels and will eventually run out of money. Think of work as being in progress instead of searching for perfection. Allow yourself a certain amount of time to accomplish a task, and call it good enough so you can move on to the next thing.
3) Indecision
Being in business means you need to make a lot of decisions. Staying in indecision will cause your business to stall. Being able to make quick decisions and move on is necessary in order to keep moving forward. Indecision is a form of self –abuse and self sabotage.
It drains your energy and you waste a lot of time pondering on what you should do, instead of getting it done already. Make a decision and move forward. Don’t let indecision stop you. If you are indecisive, ask yourself what you are afraid of. If you cannot make decision most likely you’re not trusting yourself or you are afraid of doing what you know you should be doing. By understanding what you’re afraid of, you can examine it and maybe you realize it’s nothing to worry about.
4) Unwillingness to step out of your comfort zone
So many business owners fail to grab an opportunity that is right in front of them. There can be many reasons for this. Sometimes, the perfect opportunity presents itself and all you need to do is grab it, but for some reason you come up with reasons why you can’t do it. This is often based upon fear of stepping out of your comfort zone, and failing to do so will keep you right where you are. Instead, get comfortable being uncomfortable and start living outside of your comfort zone. The magic is not going to happen by you being too comfortable.
5) Let fear and doubt stop you from taking the right action.
So often you know in your heart what you need to do, but your fear and worry tends to creep up and make you doubt yourself and stop your momentum. You don’t take the action you need to take because you worry it won’t work. You may have subconscious beliefs that stop you in your tracks every time you get ready to take action on something important.
Ask yourself what’s at the core of this? What do you believe about this situation and what are you afraid of? If it’s not obvious journaling can be helpful. Getting out of fear and doubt is essential in order to run your business successfully. This doesn’t mean you’ll never be afraid, it just means you don’t let the fear stop you.
Know that you will attract what you focus on, so keep focusing on what you want rather than what you don’t want. Have faith and move forward one step at a time.
