Stressed out and overwhelmed? How to create more balance now

In today’s busy world it’s easy to get caught up in busy-ness. It seems some people even seem to think being busy equates to being successful.
But busy-ness is often a cover up! It’s a cover up for dealing with what you really need to deal with. It’s easy to be busy because it distracts you from doing the hard things you know you should be dealing with but maybe you’re resisting or afraid to do. It’s a lot easier to distract yourself and say you’re busy right?
I used to be one of those people and for me it had to go way too far before I realized I needed to make a change.
It wasn’t until my body collapsed that I got the message. I literally was unable to keep running around like I had. My body gave out. And at that point, I kind of wish I would have done something earlier…It’s a long story for another time.
There are a lot of things you can do to make your life more manageable. However, the key is to deal with the underlying issues for your busy-ness, not just making changes on the surface and putting on a band-aid. It’s not a time problem. We all have the same amount of hours in a day. It’s a matter of priority, boundaries and of being true to yourself and what’s right for you.
Here are 10 steps to help you get into more soulful balance
1) Prioritize. Know what your priorities are in your life and in your business and prioritize the things that will get you to where you want to go.
If you’re not super clear about what you want or what is important to you, how can you prioritize? If you’re not clear, then you first need to get clear on who you are, what you want and what your vision is for the future.

2) Focus: Focus on your priorities and don’t get distracted by things that are not important to you. Once you are clear on your priorities now it’s time to make sure you actually spend your time on your priorities and not on other things. This is where you need to be honest with yourself. Is your time spent according to your highest priorities? If not, why aren’t they? Likely there is some kind of self sabotage going on.
3) Manage your time: Plan your time wisely and block off time on your calendar for all the activities you need to get done. Make sure to be realistic about how long time something will take you.
4) Learn to say no: If something isn’t important to you, learn to say no without feeling guilty or obligated. Doing less is often more. Focus on the things that are really important and don’t worry about the rest. Don’t let other people control your life, but make sure you are setting healthy boundaries for yourself and keep them.
5) Live according to your values: If you’re spending most of your time doing things that don’t matter to you or you are not true to your values, you may want to reevaluate your life. What is not in alignment in your life? What needs to change? What are your most important values that you are not willing to negotiate? Be honest with yourself.
6) Stop beating yourself up: If you don’t get everything done, don’t beat yourself up. Remember that you are human, but don’t let this be your daily excuse either. It’s better to get one important thing done that is going to move you forward in life than to be busy with lots of unimportant things that keep you busy and stuck.
7) Instead of thinking about doing something, just do it: Often, we spend more time thinking about doing something than it takes to actually do it. If it’s something you know you want to do, just do it!
8) Calm your mind: Is your head spinning non-stop? It’s important to take time to exercise, meditate, get some fresh air or do whatever helps you to relax your mind. A busy mind creates a busy life. By calming your mind you’ll be able to focus more, and if you find time to meditate daily, you’ll see how your life will start to fall into place. The things that aren’t supposed to be there will fall away and you will be more in tune with your intuition and hear what your soul is trying to tell you.
Studies show that people who exercise regularly get more things done and are more satisfied and people who meditate regularly are more productive. It’s about creating healthy routines and life enhancing daily habits.
9) Get enough sleep. A tired mind won’t get much done so you might as well make sure you get enough rest so you can be more efficient during the day. I’ve found that if I’m tired it takes me so much longer to do anything. After a nap, I’ll finish things in a fraction of the time. It’s very basic but that doesn’t mean that everyone will actually do it.
10) Start practicing self-care regularly. I’ve noticed that a lot of times when people are busy all the time, they are driven by fear. Fear that if they don’t do this or that, that something will fall apart. Fear of not being good enough, respected, taken seriously, fear of failure…
It’s often part of wanting to be in control and control everything. But you can’t control everything. The one thing you can control is you, so start with that. How you feel is everything. When you feel great and you take good care of yourself you become a magnet for good things. You are setting a standard for the Universe for how to treat you.
Make sure to find time for you, to feed your body, mind and soul on a regular basis. You are worth it and you deserve it. Go to the spa, get a massage, take a nice bath, whatever would feel good right now. Your soul needs it.
What does your soul crave right now? Go do it! Life is not a race but a journey to be enjoyed. Relax, chill out. Life will go on and you might actually start enjoying yourself a lot more.
