How you do one thing is how you do anything. And in business, the difference can mean success versus failure, profit versus loss.

In order to overcome problems, you can’t be afraid of dealing with them, but you need to face them head on. Most problems only grow if you don’t deal with them. And in business, that could be detrimental for many.

Here’s a quick quiz to help you assess where you are: Are you sticking your head in the sand hoping your problems will magically go away or are you proactively working to resolve any issues before they become bigger problems down the line?

Quickly grab a pen and a piece of paper and write down either yes or no for each question:

1. I always open my mail immediately and never have unopened mail laying around.
2. I look over my bank statements each month and I know exactly where my money is going.
3. I know how much money is in my bank account and I know my net worth.
4. I know exactly how many fixed expenses I am paying for my business each month and how much money I need to make to break even.
5. I track my revenue each month and I have a good system for doing so.
6. If I have a challenge with a client or vendor I always deal with it proactively to solve it right away, even if it feels uncomfortable or if I don’t want to do it.
7. I have a clear plan for how to make my revenue goal for this year and I am confident that I will reach my goals because I always do.
8. I always pay my bills on time and if for some reason I can’t I make arrangements up front.
9. I am not afraid of conflict and I like to be straight with people even if it means telling the truth people may not want to hear.
10. My motto is; whatever I do today I don’t need to worry about tomorrow.

Tally up your yes’s and nos. How did you score? If you had mostly yes’s, you are being in the driver’s seat in your business, congratulations!

Depending on where you are on the scale, how is this reflected in your business revenue and your overall satisfaction with your business and results?

If you have a lot of no’s, what do you need to start doing differently? How are things going to change this year? What unfinished business do you have to clean up?

I challenge you to make a list and start attacking the tasks one by one.
