Business planning: 5 steps to your revenue goals

I’m sure you’ve heard the term: If you plan to fail, you fail to plan. I couldn’t agree more.

If you’re serious about your business, you better have some kind of a plan for how you are going to reach your goals.

A plan not only makes it easier to know what to focus on, but it also helps you see if you are staying on track. And a good plan will outline the steps you need to take to reach your goals and make your goals seem more attainable.

I’ve found that planning is the best way to get out of resistance, procrastination and fear as well. As you take baby steps each day, accomplishing that big goal doesn’t seem that hard after all and you can celebrate all of the small steps along the way to keep you motivated.

Here are 5 steps to plan your way to success:

1)      Get really clear on what your goals are. How much do you want to make in your business? How many hours do you want to work? What do you want your ideal life to look like? Unless you can answer this first, you won’t be able to create a plan that is aligned with your desires. Make sure you are not holding back on what you want.

Often, people will tell me what they think they can have rather than what they really want; try not to limit yourself here. You can truly create it any way you like!

2)      Once you know the answers to the questions above, it’s time to start figuring out how you are going to reach that goal. How many clients do you want to work with? What are your programs or services? How are you going to work with your clients?

Once you figure this out, it’s time to make sure your pricing is aligned with your goals and determine from there what you need to do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to reach your goals.

3)      Decide which marketing activities you are going to focus on during the year and how often you will be doing them. Mark them on the calendar and stick to your plan. Don’t forget to add in space for any vacations you’re planning.

4)      Monitor your progress and keep track of your numbers. Once your plan is in place you should know what you need to focus on each day, week and month to stay on track. Hold yourself accountable to your plan and you’re on your way to creating your ideal business.

5) Stay open to new opportunities and adjust your plan as you go. Likely, once you commit to your goal, opportunities you couldn’t foresee will show up and it’s important to stay open to what comes to you.

The Universe has a way of helping you the moment you decide and commit. So don’t be surprised if a little windfall comes your way and your dream all of a sudden seems a lot more attainable 🙂
